Cleopatra In Space coming to Scholastic in April!

The charming sci-fi all-ages webcomic Cleopatra In Space is gearing up for it’s Scholastic/Graphix debut in a new book titled Target Practice!  Creator Mike Maihack posted on the comic’s website and on his twitter account that the publication date is set for April 24, 2014 and the graphic novel will contain a completely brand-new adventure!  Cleo is set to join the ranks of current Scholastic/Graphix publications such as Bone, Chickenhare, and Knights of the Lunch Table.

This beautifully illustrated tale has been sharing the adventures of teen-aged Cleopatra who was transported by P.Y.R.A.M.I.D (Pharaoh Yasiro’s Research And Military Initiative of Defense) from her time of 52 BC to the distant future.  They recruited her out of belief in a prophecy which names her as savior of the galaxy from the tyrannical Xerx race.  Before she can do that she must make it through military school, lectures from her mentor the cat Khensu, and secret missions to ensure the safety of the galaxy.  Target Practice will tell the story of a younger Cleo as she first came to the future and is thus a prequel to the existing story shown in the webcomic.  If you have any further questions about the new book deal, check out the Q&A written by Maihack.

Maihack started posting her adventures back in August 2009 and has self published two books of the comic.  Last October Maihack had to put the webcomic on hiatus while he adjusted to life changes such as becoming a father and leaving his former job to pursue his art career full-time.  He is definitely excited to share new stories about Cleo and her adventures in the upcoming graphic novels although he will not be updating the webcomic anymore.

Being a long-time fan of the comic, I am very excited to get my hands on this book and highly recommend the comic to fans of space westerns.  In addition to Cleopatra In Space, Mike Maihack’s published work includes exceptional stories including his comedic webcomic Cow & Buffalo and his contributions to collections such as Jim Henson’s the Storyteller (Archaia), Parable (Lamp Post), and Cow Boy (Archaia).
