This slice of life comic with a lampoon twist follows lunarbaboon as he and his wife raise their son Moishe during what would be boring situations if it was not for his exaggerated way of looking at reality. Something as simple as collecting a sizable amount of empty water bottles for recycling has lead to building a bottle rocket.
There are a lot of situations depicted that only parents can relate to, but there are a lot of observations that everyone regardless of parental or marital status can enjoy, such as a parody of a day travelling on the subway.
Most of this comic is done in a simple style and in black and white with a few colors to direct your attention to important elements. The cartoonist then throws in detailed scenes that makes you marvel at their beauty. The characters are simple but expressive and help add the small details that make these absurd jokes enjoyable. There are scenes such as the father looking at younger guys hanging out or one parent being jealous of their spouse having a night out while they stay home with their child. Many parents might find themselves a little embarrassed to have experienced these moments but you can’t help but laugh to yourself and find it therapeutic as you identify with the character’s plight. The creator’s warped sense of humor is entertaining and relatable which leads to a fun comic to help brighten up your mood when you feel overwhelmed with the roles of parenthood and life in general.
Q&A with lunarbaboon
You are a teacher, father, and comic creator. How do you manage to find the time for all of this?
(lunarbaboon) I don’t really have the time for all of it. I find most of my comics are made late at night when everyone else is asleep and I am exhausted. Not having time though has been good for the comic, it has caused me to really strip ideas down to their bare bones. I take out words and backgrounds and really just try to focus on the ideas i’m trying to get across. You can tell how tired I was the night before by how much detail it has. If a comic has a lot of detail it usually means I was home sick or my son was away at my in-laws. Mornings there are no new comics means my son was being a monster or I physically couldn’t muster up enough energy to make one.
Your comic shows hilarious exaggerations of life as a parent. Do you think it is important to keep a good sense of humor while raising a child and why?

Your old way of life gets shattered and it is hard to deal with. It can actually be quite depressing and sad, which leads to a sense of guilt because one hand you have this beautiful baby, yet you aren’t as happy. The comic has been a way of dealing with this readjustment. It gives me a positive place to put my thoughts. When something I don’t like happens or when I am sad I think: “How can I make this into a comic?” or “Why is this funny?” It has been a great way to voice certain issues I am dealing with. Free therapy.
What do you feel is the most important thing a parent should know so they can survive raising a child?
(lunarbaboon) Everyone says: “appreciate every moment because they grow up so fast,” I think this is good advice, but it is only half of it. The other half is – Take time for yourself. You should shower your kids with lots of love and support, but you also need to support yourself be doing things you like. Also, don’t talk about your kids all the time. No one cares and you will find yourself lonely.
